Headteacher’s Update…

Dear Parents and Carers,

Wish Tree

At our recent PTA meeting, parents were asking if we could restart the Wish Tree as parents would like to help their child’s class directly.  We welcome any support we receive whether it’s through time given or donations!

The Wish Tree is in the foyer outside the school office. Teachers will occasionally put ‘wishes’ on the tree. These wishes are labels or post-it notes with requests for items that would really help the class. Before, we have had requests like ‘more gluesticks for general cutting and sticking’, ‘soils and pots for a planting project’, or ‘ donations for a visualiser for classroom demonstrations’ to name a few.

Any support is much appreciated.

Please speak with the class teacher or the class rep for more details and keep your eyes on the wish tree!

Code of Conduct

Over the past two weeks, we have been talking with the pupils a lot about behaviour choices. We expect high standards of behaviour from all pupils and beside the school values, the Priory Code of Conduct is the main set of rules that are shared with pupils to help them learn good behaviour and citizenship.

Code of Conduct

  • Be polite and kind to each other and all adults in school.
  • Respect school and other people’s property and keep the school and equipment tidy.
  • Move around the school building and grounds quietly and safely.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to requests and instructions.
  • Complete all work to the best of your ability.

Part of the settling-in meetings next week will be about how well your child is behaving in class and around school. Like with any other learning, the more closely school and parents work together on behaviour, the better it gets for the child.

To find out more about our positive approach to behaviour management at The Priory, please see our behaviour policy on the school website.

Class pages

On our school website, each class has a class page with useful info. Please visit these pages if you want to find out more about:

Awe & Wonder – these documents show the main flavour of learning for each half termly topic that your child will do in class.

Coram Life – See what is covered in the life skills sessions with the Coram Life group later this term.

Core Texts – see what core texts are covered in your child’s year group. We are currently developing our approach to writing, so please do not purchase any core texts unless requested.

News from Year R…

What have we been learning about in Year R this week?

In Maths, the children were very excited to meet ‘Percy Parrot’. They have been helping Percy learn to count by telling him that the last number we say when we count tells us how many things there are altogether and that moving objects is a good way to count carefully. They have been counting up to 5 objects in a basket, counting sounds made on a drum and counting big objects that can’t be moved, such as the number of doors in the classroom. The children made ‘counting wands’ to help them when counting objects.

The children have enjoyed learning about ‘Aaaaargh Spider’ and thinking about the different feelings the spider had throughout the story. The children have also been thinking about different feelings during their PSHE this week. They have discussed different feelings and spoke about what makes them happy, excited or cross.

You should have received your child’s login for the Oxford Owl ebook library this week. They are inside your child’s reading diary. Please let us know if you have any problems logging in.

Next week:

In Maths the children will explore how numbers can be composed of 1s and begin to investigate the composition of 3 and 4 e.g. seeing that 3 can be composed of 1 and 2. The children will learn practically that a ‘whole’ can be made up of smaller parts.

The children will be learning about Autumn and the changes that happen during this season. It would be lovely if you went on an Autumn walk over the weekend and collect some sticks. We are hoping to make some nature spider webs next week. Each child will need 3 sticks of the same size so please bring to school a few sticks of the same size, if you can. Please do not worry if you don’t do this as we will also be going on an Autumn walk in school on Monday.

The children are going to end their week with an exciting trip to Queen Mary’s College Science centre. You should have already received a letter containing all the information about this. Please give your consent on Arbor for your child to attend this trip by Wednesday 9th otherwise your child will not be able to go. The focus of the day will be on ‘Seasons’, which will link nicely to our focus on Autumn during the week.

Have a lovely weekend.
