Dear Parents and Carers,

Wish Tree wishes, and thanks…

Year R – “Plastic crates for outdoor construction area” are still a wish…

Felt tips Pens: Thank you to the Price family and the Clarke family for donating much needed felt tip pens!

Piano donations

Thank you so much to the families who generously donated towards our purchase of a new high quality piano for The Priory. This piano will be used for some of piano lessons, for assemblies, choir practices and performances. Mr Smith, our Year 4 teacher, is a good pianist as well as being an accomplished trumpeter. Mr Smith will run the choir (sign up available on Arbor) and there are still spaces available if your Y3-6 child would like to join the choir.

Thank you to the following families:  Shepherd, Barsby, Nightingale-Muster, Rogers, Steele, Hall, Gunn, Byett, Hunsdon, Gardiner, Malyon, Bennett, Enticknap, Okeme, Nicoli, Saunders, Odell, Peddie, Fernandez and Pritchard

LSA position

We will soon have a vacancy for a full-time Learning Support Assistant at The Priory. If you are interested in this position, or know someone else who might be, please visit the vacancies section on our website www.theprioryprimaryschool.org.uk where the details will be uploaded early next week.

Assembly

Thank you to Pam Luck who came into The Priory on Wednesday to deliver an assembly about the poppy appeal and Remembrance Sunday. Pam, along with her husband Michael, are poppy appeal organisers in this area. The children learned a lot from the assembly about respecting the millions of people who have given their lives for their country.

We have now sold out of poppies and remembrance day merchandise. We will hold a 2-minute silence at school on Monday for all classes.

Behaviour focus

Our whole school behaviour focus next week will be ‘General manners’, so ‘please’ and ‘thank you’, as well as greetings.

News from the Sports Desk

NETBALL NEWS…

The Priory Netball Team played their first match of the season on Monday, taking on Tadley Primary School. Excitement and anticipation was high amongst all the players (and coaches!) as the players stepped onto court ready to put all of their hard work and knowledge from training into action. Tadley took the lead after the first quarter and edged further ahead in the 2nd. The Priory pulled together in a fantastic manner, showing great sportsmanship and teamwork, only allowing Tadley to score 3 goals in the third, scoring 2 goals themselves! Tadley took the final win, well done Tadley Primary School, what a fantastic first match by all players involved!

It was a joy to see the determination, control and work ethic of our Priory team come together in a match, and we go again this coming Monday, ready to take on Silchester CE Primary!

News from Year R…

What have we been learning about in Year R this week?

The children began the week by discussing and writing about all of the exciting things they did during half term. It was lovely to hear from the children about the different things the children did.

The children have also been busy talking about keeping safe around fireworks and enjoyed making their own fireworks using different materials like chalk and toilet roll tubes to make rockets.

On Thursday the children had a day all about Remembrance Day. They spoke about why we wear poppies at this time of year and who we are remembering. The children also did some poppy craft on sticks, poppy painting and made their own poppies using counters.

In Maths the children have been deepening their understanding of 5 as a quantity by linking the number itself to the 5 fingers on one hand. Percy the Parrot puppet also made an appearance this week and the children were very good at supporting Percy when counting objects. Percy often counts too many and the children helped Percy with his counting. Linked to the theme of 5 this week the children have also learnt the rhyme ‘5 Little Peas’.

If you haven’t seen it yet our Year R class photo is in the Basingstoke Gazette this week as part of the ‘first days at school’ picture specials they do each year of children in Year R. Please do take a look.

Next week:

The children will begin learning about the story ‘Augustus and his Smile’ which is all about a tiger who loses his smile and goes on a journey to find it. The children will be thinking about the character of the tiger and describing what he looks like. They will also be making some tiger crafts.

In Maths we will be looking at sets of objects and the children will be encouraged to use the language of equal to, more than and fewer than to describe different sets of objects.

The children will begin learning the songs to their nativity and will also be finding out their roles which they will play in the nativity. The nativity will be shown to adults on Tuesday 10th December at 2pm. We will be sending home the children’s roles next week and any lines they may need to practise at home to prepare them for the nativity. We have many costumes in school but may need a few items from some of you. We will be sending this information home next week.

Have a lovely weekend.
