Headteacher’s Update…

Dear Parents and Carers,

Toys in school
Please can parents remember that toys (including cuddly toys) are not allowed in school. This is because it generally causes arguments.
Thank you for your co-operation with this.

Wish Tree Thanks – thanks to the Byett family for donating clipboards which will be used across the school for fieldwork activities, and thanks to the Mason family for donating tarpaulin that will be used for den-building.

House quiz

Well done to the house captains and vice captains for organising and running a house quiz on Thursday afternoon. There were questions for each year groups and it was a lot of fun!

Hawk came first, Falcon second and Kestrel third.

Staff car park for staff only

We have noticed a few parents using the staff car park, especially new parents of children in Reception. Please do not use this car park as it is only for staff. When staff park are able to park there, it frees up the other parking spaces in the areas around the school.

Behaviour focus

Our whole school behaviour focus this coming week will be  to ‘Move around the school building and grounds quietly and safely’. This is one of the rules on the Priory Code of Conduct.

Eco council – den building

The first job of our new eco-council was to prepare materials for den-building. This didn’t seem very helpful to the environment for everyone, but it actually is. Mr Henry has to thin out the oak trees around the field to help them grow nice and strong. The branches that were cut off were the ones the eco-council used. We cut off all of the side branches and twigs (being very careful with the sharp tools). Next, we cut up an old bit of gazebo material for a waterproof den cover.

Now there are den-building materials for all of the children to use at breaktimes. Well done Eco Council!!

News from Year R…

What have we been learning about in Year R this week?

It has been a lovely autumnal week in Year R. We started the week with a lovely Autumn walk. We managed to escape the rainfall and get outside when the sun was shining, which we were very lucky to do! We collected sticks and various leaves. We also spoke about what changes in the Autumn e.g. leaves falling and changing colour.

Linked to our Autumn theme the children also learnt about Harvest. They watched a video and discussed what happens during Harvest. They spoke about what might be harvested and it was also lovely to listen to some of the children in our class who live on farms about what happens during Harvest.

All week the children have been looking forward to their first school trip to the QMC Science centre. Today they have visited the Science Centre and completed some activities linked to the four seasons. They have explored sandcastles and shells for Summer, planting a bulb for Spring, listening to sounds of Autumn and exploring how salt will dissolve ice in the Winter.

It was lovely to see you all for Parent’s meetings this week. Thank you for coming and we do appreciate the time taken for you to come to these meetings.

Next week:

The children will be finding out about ‘Minibeasts’ and discussing and writing about their favourite minibeasts. The children will also be having a go at making their own minibeast out of junk modelling. Please could we ask for some junk modelling materials to be brought in on Monday so that we have enough materials for the children to make their minibeast (suggested items could be yoghurt pots, small cardboard boxes, toilet roll tubes, egg cartons, lolly sticks).

We will be carrying out Phonics assessments with the children based on what we have taught them so far this term in Phonics. This will inform our planning for Phonics after half term.

In Maths the children will build on their subitising skills. They will continue to use ‘perceptual’ subitising – instant recognition – by saying the number of sounds that they can hear, such as claps or drum beats, without needing to count.

Have a lovely weekend.
